| A very peculiar thing happened today. I left my room this morning, with my computer running fine. When I came back, the CC that I have at the top of the case was somehow destroyed. The plastic outer tube and the inner glass tube where both broken, and they were hanging from my velcro mounts from the top of the case. It is really weird. First of all, my side panel is locked onto my case, so no one could have gotten in. Second, I dont think it was a power problem because my other CC which is on the same inverter is fine. Now i immediately turned off power to the inverter thru the little switch i had installed and soldered into the power going to the inverter. Now there are no glass shards, burn marks, or any other damage at all to any part of the case, just this CC. I am wondering if it is defective or what. I know that it didnt harm my computer, i already checked the CPU and heatsink for glass shards, and it is running completely fine. Anyone heard of anything like this happening before? I have had this CC for several months w/o any problems, and this is just really strange to me. Its no big deal, im not gonna go for warrenty or anything on a $4 CC, but its just strange. It is a possibility that it the outer casing was cracked or something during installation, case messing, etc. but I know for sure it was intact and working this morning, any help would be appreciated, thanks. | ||

Thats just the inverter, i've had that happen before, the cheap little transformer goes pop and stinks like hell. I've never heard of a CCFL itself go though. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Ahh guys, i think it is my inverter now. After unplugging the CC and using my computer for a little, my other light started to flicker, then it started to smell like something was burning, i immediately powered down and found that the inverter was the source of the smell. I opened it up, and sure enough one of the little electrical components, not sure what it is, has a crack in it and is burnt with black all over it. Bummer, but not a big deal. Im hoping that it didnt somehow damage the other cathode and that I will just be able to buy another dual-ready kit and be up and running again EDIT: alright, just snapped some pics, here ya go (links, too big for upload) http://mercury.walagata.com/w/avalan...smallblow1.JPG http://mercury.walagata.com/w/avalan...smallblow2.JPG Last edited by keat320; 18-October-04 at 05:55 PM.. | ||
