In Need Of RAM....

Right now i have 2 sticks of Geil 256 pc3200 RAM but i want to have a gig of RAM why? Cause i just DO. i was searching for more Geil RAM but since i have bought my RAM nobody has sold it cheap, so i was wondering is it bad to mix and mingle Ram from different manufacturers? cause almost every site i goto has a deal for somebodies RAM but never the kind i own.

As long as you don't want to overclock I think you will be fine just get the same speed ram.

I have 2 different Geil sticks on my rig, one is PC4000, and the other is PC4400.

They easily hit 520+ FSB, I don't know how well mix and match will work with different brands though.

Memory has what they call "SPD" Serial Presence Detect.

It is a small chip the manufacturers program with the timing information for use when "Auto" memory settings are used.

You may need to set this manually if they have different timings, otherwise there could be a conflict if one stick won't run at the timings of the other.

Are you from Canada or something? ( I know your not in my kitchen as your location states, unless that was you in my house ripping me off last night ...LOL)

NewEgg has Geil in stock last I checked...

If i have 2 of the same Stick of Geil Ram can i run in dual channel mode? I have no experience with this and really have no idea of what all it does.

1. Dual channel will add nearly no performance increase on AMD systems.
2. Did you throw away your manual or something?

I would get one 512MB stick ...there are only three slots in that board, can't use 4 sticks..if you put the 512 in the center slot (I think that is the right one..not sure) then you will still have dual channel (256+256 is on one channel, the 512 on the other)

Is this similar to what u have?

BTW..The most people see is about 5% using dual channel (With certain apps) a nice boost, but not earthshaking....I'l take it though!

Should work out great then, the other option you have is to sell what you have and get 2x512..But I don't think you wanna deal with that hassle
