| I got for free a Plextor CD-ROM tower with 7 drives. Model Number CD-7CE And I'm gonna donate it to the elementary school but I need a SCSI card for it. Which card is the problem. I call Plextor tech support and they said "Oh get an Adaptec 2490U2W" .... then I ask is the device HVD or LVD and techboy goes "HVD" The 2940U2W is an LVD - so much for techboy. This is an OLD unit, the CDROMs are 4x [I think] and use caddies for fsakes. I can't even get INSIDE the darn thing - there's a lock on the front of the case that I think is locked and is preventing the shroud from coming off. I'm not sure examining innards would tell me much anyway. I'm hoping somebody here has a Plextor CD-7CE still chugging away and can read me some key parts of the manual. If all you have is the manual and the unit is long gone, Ill BUY it! It's been a bit frustrating. Googling hasn't helped. Plextor only confused the issue. So now I'm turning to the experts. -MF Last edited by godfoot; 02-October-04 at 10:51 AM.. | ||

| When Google fails me, the first place I turn is AltaVista which was the first engine (and only until Google) I ever used so I know the search strings really well. Just for future reference of course. I imagine it might use something similar to this unit, maybe Adaptec can tell you which of their products supports your Plextor tower. http://www.nextag.com/JES_Hardware_4..._cdzmainz1-htm | ||

| Lokie's Personal WU-Hoe | Just a few questions and suggestions... What does a school need this CDrom rack for? Why not just break the lock? Does the rack use a proprietary SCSI card? I don't see why something like that would, but then again this hardware is new to me. If you know it's LVD, then buy a SCSI [insert what kind of SCSI here] LVD card. | |

| I don't NEED to break the lock because I don't NEED to get inside. If it turns out I need to replace drives, I'll take to to a locksmith and get it unlocked. And I don't KNOW that the SCSI I need is LVD. That's the real question - is this device LVD or HVD? Librarian said she'll install some encyclopedias on it. It's so nice to be able to install an CD and never have to mess with ejecting it, or worry that a kid will click on the icon and need to insert it because IT"S ALWAYS there and ALWAYS the right drive letter. -MF | ||
