| My old 2.0 Megapixel dgicam is really showing its age. My wife is itching for a new one. She does mostly pics of the kids, she does crop them and blow them up. Many end up printed. I would use the camera mostly for hardware reviews, taking close up shots of waterblock installations, etc. My budget is <$500 CDN and I have several contenders in mind. I am open to other suggestions: 1.HP R707 5.0MP, 3X optical zoom, $450CDN 2.Canon Powershot A80 4.0MP, 3X optical zoom, $500CDN 3.Canon Powershot A75 3.2MP, 3X optical zoom, $400CDN 4.Fuji Finepix S3000 3.2MP, 6X optical zoom, $380CDN . | ||

| Put, i've heard good things about all those cameras except number 4 (nothing negative, just, haven't heard anything positive). I think you'd be quite fine with any of those. Just remember that more megapixels is a nuisance (less pictures per memory card) and you can save on media with lower megapixel cameras. | ||

| The only positive I've heard about the Fuji is its the zoom. I don't really know about its picture quality. I'd recommend the cheaper of the Canon's. Canon is known for making great digicams and 0.8 megapixel difference is not worth $100. Edit - Have any idea why our avatars aren't working, NoSlak? | ||

| I'm sorry Putwig, I know I'm not helping here. My old digital camera is pissing me off more and more when I try to grab pics for a review, so I've been looking into them also. If I buy within the next month or so, I will end up with the Olympus C5060. Killer zoom, and .5 inch close-ups. The price isn't too ridiculous for the features, but you would have to purchase an additional proprietary mem card. I usually don't follow the rags, but both PCWorld and PCMag made it an editor's choice. Don't mean nothing, but nice to know they share my opinion. | ||

| I see a lot of digital pictures in my business. In my opinion the Nikon has always had the best camera, especially for close-ups. Canon and Olympus are a close second. I think you'd be happy with either Canon, but you may want to see where the features and price of the Coolpix line from Nikon falls as well. Check out the 3700, SQ, 4100 and 4200. | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | I have the Fuji s-3000, Thats what I trounced RED02's 500.00 Kodak with... I know I have seen them for as little as 199.00USD online I think it is plenty of camera for still review images, and as long as the family shots aren't in low light, at racing speeds, She'll be more than happy with it. Get a spare set of the "2100" whatever, AA rechargables, and you'll always have enough power on tap. | |

| I really like the fujifilm s3000, I personally have the s5000 which has some interpolation to make it a 6 Megapixal, mostly I use it at 3 but it does a good job going to 6, mostly I like it's 10 X Optical zoom and the fact that it has manual settings. If 6X and no manual settings don't bother you then the s3000 would work fine. The s5000 would also be <$500 I got mine for arround 330 online a while ago. | ||

| Thanks so much for all the opinions guys! My wife has decided that all of her cropping, resizing, and printing will require at least 4MP (although to date we have been bopping along with 2MP). So, the A75 and the Fuji are off the list. BA, the Olympus you posted looks great, but around $900 CDN. So, I am now down to the A80 vs the R707. The R707 is a newcomer with great specs on paper (for the price) and HP's incredible customer service. Too new though for any comprehensive reviews from trusted sites The A80 is a known winner, and has Canon's great track record. But, costs more cash for less resolution. | ||

| Ive been using an Olympus C4000 for about a year and a half and I love it. It has a ton of features and you can get one for a good deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...819051541&rd=1 | ||

| When I got my camera about a year ago, I read quite a few reviews, mostly canons (so this advice may be dated, but here goes). I considered the A80 to, but I ended up getting a Powershot S400 Digital Elph (they have a 5mp version now, the s500). It may have been one of the best purchases I've ever made. The features are just shy of identical to the A80, it's just that the Elph is only the size of a pack of cigarettes. That works well for me because I like to keep it in my pocket. Even after a year I still get compliments on it all the time I'd go with the A80. | ||
