52x CDRW droping to 40x????

I got a lite-on 52x CDRW, and I haven't really noticed this until I looked but its burning at 40x and I can't cheange it back to 52x. Any ideas why? I suspect the IDE cable.

Check for firmware upgrades. I have a 40X TDK that would only burn to one brand of cdr's (can't remember the brand) until I upgraded the firmware. Havn't had any trouble since.

Shiat - I have a spanky new Lite-On burner thats 52x. I dont burn over 24x - not really sure why I guess thats fast enough and Ive heard if you burn video CDs too fast you can have trouble getting a DVD player to read them. Not really sure that makes sense but I read it on www.dvdrhelp.com so I believed them. Would you even notice the difference between 40x and 52x - whats it like 5 seconds?

naw its seems more like 15 seconds.....but could be 5 idk :-)

Be sure you're using media rated to 52x. Most offbrand crap won't go all the way it's "rated" to, so try other media that's rated to 52x.
