Default hard disk near speakers

i've just got two big 10" subwoofers and i read somewhere about magnets messing up hard drives, the problem is i want at least one fo the subs in a corner about 15cm away from my rig.

(i'm trying to wake the dead from my room 200w of pure bass)

200w? is that all? You should be fine - speakers use electromagnetis for the most part, and 15 cm isnt necisarly true ( the rear of the cone of the speaker has the magnet) so if they are decent speakers your looking at 25-35cm away from the rig which is far enough away not to cause damage.

I would however consdier just how much *thump* will be coming out of the speakers and shaking everyhthing in the room - my laptop crashes anytime i switch on the bass on my hifi setup simply because there is too much vibration - this isnt usually the case with desktops, but dont say i didnt warn you - it could happen.

Also, your drive is most likely inside your case (probably metal) which would provide some shielding.

I have a pair of bigass 10's sitting right up against my fileserver. They don't seem to be doing anything to it. I had to put them there because of my total lack of space. One thing I have noticed though is that they mess with my tablet if I place it on top of the speakers. The pointer will mysteriously move around and right click... odd.

that's just through the sub port, my system is a further 240w, considering my room is around 4m by 7m it makes for a loud system

the bass crossover set really low so all that comes out is really great rumbleing and thuds
