Not to sound like an @$$, but doing a google search first would work wonders (depending on how 1337 you are ). But, if you really must ask, PM Kage. He knows all about fibre channel....

I think this is kinda funny in a demented kind of way... I'm pretty sure he asked a question a month or so ago and he got slammed with "use google" too. Don't quote me on it though.

It's a fiber optic interface (instead of copper wires), so yes, you'd need a special adapter card. After a quick search, I saw adapters for anywhere from $175 to several thousand dollars.

What Google won't tell you right away is that you could get most of the speed of the low-end fiber-channel drives (i.e., the 10,000rpm ones) without most of the cost by going with a $110 Western Digital Raptor. That drive wouldn't need any adapter if your system supports Serial ATA.

Considering I'm typing this off of a FCAL HDD, I have some answers for you...and they all can be found HERE!

BTW Funky, my QLA2200 cost me $36 (thanks to TekX mainly) but they can be had for $50 or under easily off of eBay. Buying fibre channel=eBay if you're serious about it.

Nice! Gotta love eBay!

Also, gotta love a good group of experts willing to share info. Sure, you can wade through loads of technical documents from Google, but you get a much more useful answer by asking someone who knows (like Kage, in this case).
