Hook it up to IDE2, or get a PCI IDE controller card and plug it into that. Don't put an optical and hard drive on the same cable, as it will slow the hard drive down.

Well, you can only connect two devices per connector, hence "IDE". If there aren't any more IDE connectors on your mobo, then it's going to have to be PCI card time.

Actually its better to have them like that. If you have a cd-r/w and a cd-rom and two hdd's your best bet is to put the cd-r/w and the slave hdd on one channel and the master hdd and the cd-rom on the main channel. This way you have less of a chance for your data to get lost in the transfer, but with the new technology it doesnt really matter.

EDIT: r00t how many hdd's do you have. if u have two and have one cd-rom then you can add another hdd but if you have two hdd's and two opticals then no you have to get an IDE card.

Well, I'm more perfomance oriented, and I personally would get an IDE card in order to preserve faster speeds.

that^^ or a sata controller? would help with the oversized cabling sprawling all over the motherboard.
