Unhappy Computer Hangs When Connected To Dial-up

Hi all,

My system is running on, P4 3Ghz, windows XP Pro SP1, 1G kingston ram, Ati Radeon 9600 Pro, Asus P4P800 Deluxe. We'll my problem is that my system hangs everytime i connect to the internet, but it happens at random, i can be online from 1minute to 30mins, then it hangs and i need to reset the PC and reconnect again. PC only hangs when connected to internet.

The OS is legal and my modem i've tried on another PC and it works fine, I decided to get a UPS to stabilize the 12V comms voltage but it still hangs. I did however try another power supply 350W, now this worked fine for about 3 hours then the problem raised it's head again. So now i don't know what else to do. I've updated my Virus checker regularly (when the connection gives me enough window and doesn't freeze).

Please help! Anyone experiencing thesame issue?

thanx

What's the make and model of your modem? Has this problem just started occuring (as in everything was working fine for more than a couple weeks prior)?

I was having similar issues aftre migrating from a POS AOpen mobo to an Asus P4SDX. My modem worked fine with the aopen mobo, but kept hangin (mainly while connecting and disconnecting). Went through every possible setting, tried four different modems including both internal and external, just to make sure it wasn't a mobo issue, I tried it on my wife's new rig at the time (also with an Asus P4SDX) and it hung in her machine too. I tried it with both WinXP and 2K.

Finally, I figured I'd try one last time.... I did the opposite of what I had been doing and went out and bought the cheapest USR winmodem (I was using hardmodems before) and surprisingly everything worked perfectly. So I assume that Asus mobo's don't like modems with their own controller.
