You suck, BA. I know that stepping (a little) and you're in luck.

Peruse xtremesystems.org and do some research.

You can find the latest stepping revisions info for AMD HERE

The latest version is a CG steppings, and it has the 3 variations with different CPUID identitification numbers.

It's definately not a NewCastle core, is it a old "Engineering" sample?

Looks like the manufacture date is week 21 of 03, but I am not too familiar with AMD64 steppings..Mobile version maybe?

Did ya get a new toy?

"Classic" settings with all the eye candy turned off = best performing "Theme".

Less is more.

Not quite..

It was on my work computer..Windows 2000

But that is how I set XP on my rig at home... as Iatrenomy said tonight on IM "Benchmarkers Dream"

It has to be an old review or engineering sample based on this quote from TheInquirer

"It compares the Athlon 64 using Quake 3 with a Radeon 9700 card Athlon XP setups, the Pentium 4.
It seems that the current board had some problems with CL 2 memory settings and performance wise it was just around Intel 865 PE performance.
The board recognised the CPU as 2900+ and not as 3100+, which may mean AMD might change the PR ratings for these CPUs.
The K8, whether it's a 3100+ or 2900+ shows it's much faster then any Athlon XP even with dual channel Nforce 2"

And this one from X-BIT Labs

"The first Athlon 64 processors to appear this year will be models 3100+ and 3400+ with 1.80 and 2.0GHz core-clock respectively and 1MB of L2 cache. As we said earlier, in Q1 next year AMD will launch the last and final Athlon 64 processor on ClawHammer core with 2.20GHz frequency and 3700+ performance rating"

Am I getting any warmer?

EDIT: MAHAHHAHA! Found a old review Pic HERE booting up as a 3100+Athlon 64

NOT FOR SALE!!!!

Yeah Solid, you got it right. It's a pre-production model that never made it to the market. Since it is actually clocked slower than the AMD64 3000, AMD felt folks wouldn't understand or purchase the 3100. The 3100 is clocked at 1.8 but has 1MB of cache, the 3000 is clocked at 2.0 but has only 512MB of cache. So they skipped the 3100 and went straight to the 3200 which is also clocked at 2.0.

GK scored this chip from a reseller who had received some samples prior to the AMD64 release. He sent it to me to play with for a while, I should have some numbers up before too long.

wOOt!!!

Is that unlocked on the higher multipliers by any chance?

So... it has the same clock speed as the current 2800+ (1.8ghz, 512 cache) Following there current performance rating system, it would be a 3000+ since the extra 512cache is supposed to add 200 to the PR ratings, if they had gone into production with it.

I think they are doing something similar with the 3400+ right now, early versions on the Hammer core are 2.2ghz 1meg cache, and the newer stepping "Paris" cores are 2.4ghz and 512 cache, but still rated the same.

I seem to remember them juggling the numbers a bit just prior to release, and I think they are going through the same issues with the release of the 2.4ghz on 754 and 939 pin.

The 939 pin with dual channel memory gives you +100 PR over single channel memory 754 pin, so I guess it will be a 3700+ on 939 and 3600+ on 754 pin. But they are currently projected to both have a 3700+ rating...so what gives AMD?

3700+ and 4000+ coming soon

Every program is picking it up as a 2900, which is expected. They don't recognize it as a 64 bit CPU and they only read the clock speed.

The numbers I've been pulling show the difference though.

EDIT: As far as this CPU being a keeper, I'm pretty sure I'll kill it before it's worth anything. That's my job.
