Default Busy HDD

So's I did aformat reload on both my drives last nightand installed goback after OS and CHipset Drivers so I can have a clean image.
However, Im not blaming this on GoBack but I can hear my HDD working even though I have nothing open or running Ive shut my AV , MSN and everything the task manager says is running but I can still hear my drive writing or working, my CPU usage is 0% btw.
Thx Fellas

Do you have indexing turned on? Is there anything in your scheduled tasks folder? Does it stop when you reboot? Might just be GoBack creating a restore point.

As AntiM said, it might be GoBack or the Indexing Service.

Indexing Service: (I think Indexing Service is only available on Windows NT, 2000, and XP. If you don't have one of those, ignore the following) To find out if you have the Indexing Service enabled, do "Start", "Search", "For Files or Folders". Then at the bottom of the Search Options box on the left, it should say whether Indexing service is running. You can disable it with no ill effects; it just speeds up the process when you do a search for a file or folder.

Other Possibilities: There are other programs and services that may try to optimize your search speed, too, like the "Microsoft Office" shortcut that puts itself in your Startup folder. You can also remove this shortcut (or move it to a different folder) with no ill effects.

i have this constantly wether its my rig, mini pc or laptop. I guess its just a pagefile storage or some minature programme - could be to do with cache storage on the hard drive - 2 or 8 megs is enough to cause some sort of activity, it oculd be the hdd simply trying to keep itself awake!

My 3 rigs always have the same pattern throughout the busy area - busy(0.5sec) silent(0.5 sec) busy, silent, busy, silent constantly untill you load something - it doesnt happen all the time tho - usually just randomly or when theres nothing going on.Ive ignored it with no ill effects.

I think that's the best solution I've heard yet!! Turns out that method's pretty versatile, too...
