Default PSU and Radeon 9800

My 400w powersupply went bad about a month ago.. I've been running my computer on a smaller 350w that I took out of my cousins comp while hes not using it. He is gonna be home soon. Knowing that generic powersupply can't provide as much as a highend top namebrand powersupply. So in order to make up for this I made sure I got a powersupply that is able to provide alot more wattage than I need. After getting the powersupply I hooked it up to my comp. Whenever I have my AIW 9800 Pro gfx card hooked up with power the computer wont start. If I unplug the power connector to my gfx card the computer tries to boot but ofcourse I get the Radeon error for improper installation. I took out the 550w powersupply and tried to boot another comp (with a card that didn't need power) it booted up fine. I just find it weird that the more powerfull powersupply is unable to run my computer when my 9800 is hooked up. Has anybody ever heard of this problem before? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

9800 pro AIW have a known problem with suckin' a lot more juice than they should and screwing up start ups yet run perfectly if you can get them up and running. There is a mod somewhere to solve the issue but my lazy google search can't find the article(s) on it. But anyways - unless that 550 is a high wattage Antec/Enermax/PC Power and Cooling that can take abuse loads right off the bat, that's yer problem most likely.

EDITED to add AIW reference since it's the only one it applys to.

I also had an issue with a NF7-S, 9700AIW, and i had a Antec true 430 Watt PSU not booting. it would turn on for about 2 seconds then die. i found that if i pulled the power off the 9700, hit the go button then plugged it back in it would work. there is no known fix for this in my case. But i fixed it by going Intel.....

I had a similar issue with my 5900xt - Pressing the power button to turn on the system yielded a blank screen - no error message and no POST. Just stopped cold - no beeping. With the system still in this state I would then hit the reset button - booted every time. This first power then restart combo worked 100 percent of the time - finally fixed problem by getting rid of my Intel mobo for ABIT....works tip top now but it was an odd problem.
