Hard Drive failure Warning?

My friends Duron 1.4 @2GHZ started giving me the warning "Hard drive may fail, back up all your data and replace HD"

I ran scandisk, check disk, defrag diconnected the 2nd hard drive...Still warns me.

Is it ready to die? or do I just need to Format it?

Its going to die - seen this before. Its at boot up when the SMART feature kicks in right?? Had one last two weeks once but its almost a certain death as some point. They arent lieing when they mean you need to backup. The SMART data is not stored on the disk so formatting it will do no good.

it may well be because of your firends well over cooked system that it is expiriencing a major problem like that - be it a faulty error, or that the OC did it. I have samrt disabled for some reason, either i am very trusting towards my rig, or I like little surprises now and then!
