Default Testing new PSU

Just wanted to know how I could test my PSU before I began building everything. Don't want stuff to fry from the start, so I was wondering if I could get to testing it from the start. Is it sposed to turn on even if you have just the fans connected. Or does it need some modding before I can begin testing? Suggestions?

Newegg didn't ship me my arctic silver , so I have to wait till it comes in before I can start. Or maybe I can be adventurous and try the stock HSF. Anyways, my Radeon 9600 Pro isn't in either so I'm still having to wait to test my new rig.

PSU usually will not burn up anything if it as bad.. Most a bad psu should do is not turn on or will cause th pc to keep rebooting when it runs out of juice..If you do want to test just the psu there are 2 wires you have to jump together with another wire.. not exactly which wires off hand but something to reserch..

Hey man I beg to difffer. A bad PSU can reak havoc on your system. Take me for example, I had a bad PSU and it spiked, and well guess what? Im with-out my M2500 any more. So........if you love your system, and dont wanna have to buy new parts, then get a good PSU, and if its going bad STOP USING IT and get a new one.

Yeah i changed my post a bit from when i originally put it in..I agree with purchasing a decent psu but i have been fortunate I guess to never have a psu destroy anything nor have I seen it first hand..But hey no one is perfect and there is always somehting to lern..

I followed ur advice and tested the PSU, it works A OK. Just finished putting in everything but couldn't get anything to work Sat around for a bit and played around till I got everything working atleast from an electrical stand point. Had to get into work early morning so my project is still incomplete. I'm using the Raidmax PSU that came with the case and the voltages seemed steady. I guess I'll only now how stable once I have the OS installed is to run Prime95.

But atleast I have everything posting so its the first good sign. Will be posting scores soon. I still haven't gotten my Vantec HSF so I'm just using stock HSF. Now I'll know for sure how good the Stock HSF is

Thanks for the help....this place rocks
