CD Burners

What brand of CD burner would you guys recommend? The ones I'm looking at are Sony, Optorite, Aopen, and Artec.

Can't go wrong with Lite-On. Sony and Plextor are quite reliable too. What models are you looking at?

I reccomend Lite-on, that model looks nice. Nice price, and it looks like you get Nero too, great deal

Just remember that if you are running Linux as well that it sometimes has issues with LiteOn drives. Other than that they are great.

I've bought several Lite-On combo drives. Great drives, and one bonus for SFF builders: They're one of the shortest drives at 170MM.

I too would recommend Lite-on drives. They are cheap, fast, and surprisingly reliable.

Yup that's the shizzle right there...flawless operation, not the fastest, but plenty fast, comes with Nero, too.
I matched it with the Lite-on DVD-rom and they are short bodied to boot...

Since you are buying a new cdrw have you though of spendiong an extra 30 to 50.00 for a dvd burner??You can get a 8x liteon multiformat for around 80.00.If nto then I reccomend Plextor,Liteon,TDX for cd burners..

Now that you mention it, I'll definitely consider one of those when I upgrade. My Yamaha is giving me some troubles right now...burned an image at 8x, when the max is 24x. It would always burn at 16x before, never at 24x...even though my media is rated for 32x and was proven to be that speed with a different CD burner.

Can't beat free shipping either...$35 and that's a steal.

One thing to watch out for: One of the reasons DVD burners are so cheap now is dual-layer DVD burners are soon arriving.
And yeah Zennzz, All of the Lite-On drives I've seen lately are short. Kinda nice when you're building a cube rig.

Well I already purchased the CD burner, and the reason I didn't get a DVD or DVDRW was because it's not for me. A friend of my father asked me to buy one and he'd pay me for it, and that's what he wanted. He apparently has no DVD interest. He said he'd pay me to put it in too, but I doubt I'll even bother charging him. I thought about stealthing it though.....wonder what he'd say about that?

well i have a plextor preminum and a lite on 411s dvd burner both i would not think twice about buying if they go out.The Plextor comes with a bunch of sweet tweeks you can do to a cd ,and the lit on runs smooth as silk also but a little on the loud side ,Either one ya choose you will not go wrong unless you want quiet.If thats the case plextor all the way.Oh one more thing if ya go with a 411 let me know i have a program that switched the dvd medium to dvd rom

Well when the thread was started I hadn't bought it yet. Then I got some input and bought it. Now I'm just waiting for it to ship out. I got the advice I needed so fast that I was able to buy it within like an hour of starting to look for one.
