Default Need help with Linksys Wireless router. Possible repair?

Hey guys,

My brother in law stopped by a short while ago and dropped off a Linksys Wireless Router Kit (Router and PCMCIA card). Model No. w11s4pc11. His dad gave it to him, said it was smoking, but he wasn't sure if it was the router itself or the power adapter. The router is Model No. BEFW11S4. I'd like to get it working if at all possible..... like to use it with my PocketPC.

First thing I need to know is which is positive for the adapter? The center tip or the ring? I have a 5V 2.5A power supply that should work fine since the router requires 5V 2A..... just need the pinout, can't seem to find it online.

If that's not it I'd suspect probably the mosfet. Any thoughts on other possibilities welcome.

EDIT: BTW, his dad didn't give him the power adapter, so naturally, I can't help but think that may have been the problem.

i recently plugged a 12volt adaptor into my linksys router.....obviously its fried now

moral of the story: don't assume that because the plug fits that it is the right one

lmao my friend tom did the same thing, 12V on 5V router, up in smoke it went, it still works but the WAN port on it is fried.

He had two, sold the 12V with a 5V AC adaptor the day his other one fried and never knew it lmao

Ummm.... yeah, that's why I always check my voltages first. Anyway, I doubt my father in law did anything like that either... he tendes to be a little too careful with electronics. So, anyone know what the polarity on the plug is? On, my Linksys e-net hub the center is positive, but I'd rather be sure first.
