Default What's a good 1U psu?

Hey pimps,
I'm working on my first mod in a long time and it's going into a tight space so I need to get a 1U psu. However the only 1U's i've ever come in contact with are seriously whinny! Dose anyone one know a good, small, fairly quite solution?
Thanks all!

What kind of mobo and CPU are you using it with? Shuttle uses a 1U 250W, and I've seen some pretty healthy rigs running on that. I saw a 300W 1U here: http://www.tmc-uk.com/Products/Power...y/power_1u.htm

I'll be running an Asus mATX, with an AMP XP2200 i think, it's just going to end up a BSD server really since i don't game and i do all my aplication type stuff on my powerbook. I'm not really worried too much about taxing a PSU, just something that won't be too noisy or cost me an arm and a leg.

PC Power And Cooling would be your best bet for a 1U PSU although might be expensive.

I was running a Chaintech mATX nForce2 board with an XP1800+ OCed to 1900 MHz on a 150W eMachines PSU that was 6 years old....of course, the mobo eventually died, but I'm not absolutely sure it was due to lack of power since I never had any other symptoms. I checked 1U PSUs out and they get expensive quick! Sparkle seems to make a lot of them, and that's a great brand. I'd recommend going with at least a 250W. Better to have less load than take a chance of killing hardware...

They're 99 dollars for the 300 watt 1U units directly from them. When it comes to PC Power and Cooling it seems it's always cheaper to buy directly from them.

wow, 99 bucks, that's a tad steep for my pockets.
is there any way to mod a "normal" psu to be smaller, or is it safe to leave it "unenclosed" in a sealed off case? does it need to be grounded some special way to turn on?
btw, you guys are all just as friendly as i remember from a year or so ago when i stopped frequenting PR.

I'd try to save up if I were you, 99 bucks is just a couple of plasma donations after all.

you can take the case off of it, just remember that if you touch the wrong leads or a component touches them someone/thing can/will end up fried.
