If you are referring to building laptops from scratch--not feasible for most people besides massive companies like dell. You might want to clarify your question

I'm thinking that would depend on the size of the "lap" as well.

Other than old/outdated gear I don't have a clue...
however if you do find something, I bet you'll be a very wealthy person someday.
I'm thinking all of us would add an inexpensive laptop, with current speeds to our arsenel.

Yeah, I'm in the market for a laptop at the moment. I'll buy a laptop from you if you can make it cheap enough.

Woah laptops! be sure to PM me if you have somthing unique - ill sell em on for you. I run a 'business' from home selling anyhting computer related, repairing modding upgrading.

I seem to have a different view than the other posters here, jsut to say that i dont think it would be that hard or expensive. This relates to several laptops ive seen sold by small companys in my area. For instants, Novatech do the cheapest SOB laptop ive ever seen. It uses VIA's Gigapro, with minimalistic specs, but more than enough to run XPSP1.
I think the last price they put on it was £399. Its parts your gonna have to find. Part sites for the public can be found on the interent quite often, but for the comercial sector, im not so sure.

Theres also the factor of casing. Certain laptop chasis conform to certain laptop mobos - as far as I no there no real standardised form for a laptop, like desktop has AT ATX EATX and the new BTX.

If you manage to pass through this maze of mazes, Some clear acrylic and blue leds inside a laptop would be most welcoming to me .

If it turns out to be a rite pain in the end, I suggest some sort of minimalistic modding on an ITX motherboard - see how small you can get the case with screen, keeping it practical. I know theres cases no bigger than an exteral hard drive out there.

if you have or have access to autocad and a 3-4 point CNC machine, you could make your own laptop cases. you could make them fit an existing mobo...though youd then have to make a custome coolin solution, witch could also be CNCd, but then your CNC would prolly need to be water cooled...you talking a $300,000 investment...
