| Apex Techie I | Currently I am using the PSU the came with my case at the moment I only have one SATA hard drive and a IDE DVD Burner hooked up, no problems at all but I plan on adding about 5 IDE hard drives connected through PCI controllers. Whether or not my psu will be able to handle that many hard drives is questionable to me. I want enough current to power all my devices + a little room to add outer stuff down the line. I would like some advice on the topic. Here is my PC specification currently PSU, Logisys: PS480D, +3.3V 28A, +5 36A, +12v 16A, -5V 0.5A, -12v 0.8A +5VSB 2A Motherboard, ASUS: M4A785TD-V EVO CPU, AMD: Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition. Model number: HDZ550WFGIBOX RAM, OCZ: Obsidian 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800). Model Number: OCZ3OB1600LV4GK A WD hdd and a NEC DVD burner can't remember the exact models atm also some lights and a side fan. Last edited by peppers; 11-October-09 at 09:55 AM.. | |

| The Logisis? Or did you forget a link? The Logisis is crap, it's a generic, low bid brand that sells for like 15 bucks. PC Power and Cooling is still one of my favorites, the silencer line is a bargain. But Corsair is making a really solid single rail PSU right now for a very good price and a 5 year warranty. Most warranties are 2, maybe 3 years. PCPC has the best warranty at 7 years, Corsair ranks second. Either will serve you well. Check 'em out. | ||

| The Corsair single rail 650, or 750. Both are non-modular which will save you money and you'll get better efficiency from them that way. Single rail will save you money because you don't have to buy way over what you need wattage wise as when you go with multiple rail psu's...something psu calculators usually leave out. And a good single rail has proven to be more stable than multi rail psu's. The PCPC 750 Silencer is what I run in my current rig and a favorite around here. You didn't list a video card, that could significantly effect the power you would need. If you're using the onboard video, the 650 is more than enough. | ||

| Apex Techie I | I went with this one as advised. Paypal was running a promotion for 25 dollars off if I use bill me later and there is a new $20 rebate for it that starts today so if everything goes smoothly with the CORSAIR rebate and I do get around to paying paypal back on time (and I will) the final cost will be 44.99. | that's an excellent PSU you've chosen. I, too, use the PCP&C Silencer 750 mentioned above, but the one you spec'd handles up to 8 SATA drives, which should work perfectly for your planned build up of additional HDDs. Remember: your system is a single, living thing. It needs a quality CPU to process, a quality mobo to handle data throughput, quality RAM for memory access and speed, quality GPU to display your data, quality sound to hear your music / special effects / environment, quality network interface card to receive and send data, and a quality Power Supply Unit to ensure everything else works properly!! ![]() -godling | ||

| Apex Techie I | I'm quite happy I was able to get such a good price on it, its only about $10 more than the cheap off brands after the discounts worked out and its way better quality. Thanks for your help everyone. Last edited by peppers; 12-October-09 at 04:19 PM.. | |
