Default RAM and SATA

Hey Guys, Im quite a noobie when it comes to computer insides. Basically one of my computers has died and I am looking to recycle the hard drive and RAM. I just wondered what if anything i need to look out for? In the computer I want to put them into there is already a power and SATA lead for the hard drive. Also there is a 1G stick of Kingston RAM which is the same size and manufacturer as the 1G stick I want to put in. Can anyone give me any advice?

Cheers
Al

The speed and type of ram it is, are important. First download, unzip and run the CPUID application on your working computer. Then click the "SPD" tab at the top of the window. Take a screenshot of that window and post it here. This will help determine exactly what type and speed the RAM is.

Then on the other stick, write down any info you can read from it, Things similar to "DDR" and "PC3200" are what I'm looking for. Serial numbers may help as well.

As for the hard drive, you should have no problem getting that to work, as long as you know that there is almost no chance that you will be able to boot from it as is.

Basically before I can help you any further with that, I need to know, Is there data from this drive that you want to salvage? Do you want switch it with the drive that is already there or run both drives together?

Heres the pic of the SPD Tab. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l2...liffix/cpu.jpg. Theres no DDR or PC3200 on the other stick. Serial number is 'KVR400X64C3AK2/1G Kit of 2 2.6V'

The hard drive I've sorted out.

Cheers

2.6v sounds like DDR. Can you see the actual RAM chips? Are they rectangular, or square?

the kvr is kingston value ram.pc 3200/ddr 400. the ram on the pic is pc 2100/ddr 266.
the 400 will drop in speed to match the 266 and won't hurt anything.
