Default Laptop USB Boot

i know i havnt been here in a bit, but i have to return to the original pimps for some help. I have a Dell Inspiron 2600 with a blown internal cd drive. I have an external I/O Magic USB drive but the laptop doesnt say ANYTHING in the bios about a USB boot. It doesnt detect the dvd drive, but im sure theres a way via Boot Disk or something that i can see the usb drive and then run setup from the usb dvd. Any advice?

Welcome back bro, you could try something like UBCD, that might have something useful on it if your BIOS doesn't naturally support booting from a USB location.

PXE boot, is that an option, necessarily the 100MB or GbE network is a lot faster than a 30MB/s USB drive. And most hardware supports it natively...
