Default Memory is not the correct amount ??

Ok tech heads,
I have an Asus Commando board , E4600 , 4gb Kingston pc6400 - fresh install of XP Pro, all drivers updated, XP updated

My issue is that the board will not show more than 1.87 gb of ram. I know the video card will/can eat some up, and that XP Pro will show less than 4gb. Am I missing something , is there a switch/setting in the bios or some other way to get this board to recognize at least 3gb or ram?

** I'm assuming that with XP Pro , it should recognize at least 3 to 3.5 gb of ram **

As far as the video card, not sure that should be happening... Cards should operate off their own memory, unless they are integrated/shared on the mobo... (unless tech has changed that much since I've been out of the US)

As far as the OS, however... Unless you're running a 64-bit OS, the 4GB will only show as up to 3 (at least so far in my experience), whether you're in Vista or XP.

As far as I can tell from the board specs, you should be able to run up to 8GB of memory...

Time to start experimenting. Pull it down to one and see if it picks that up, then go to two, then three, and you will be able to see when it starts not recognizing the whole amount.

A 32bit OS can recognize up to 4gb of RAM, 63 bit can go to 128gb.

On 32bit OS there is a block of RAM that starts at the 4gb mark and works backwards that is reserved for PCI interfaces, which is why you will see something less than 4gb. It will usually be in the 3.25-3.75gb range depending upon your hardware.

I do not know how those Tubro Cache cards work, but if would have to be set to reserve 1.5gb to drop you to 1.87 usable, and I doubt it is doing that.

I use to have one of those 6200 LE's and it had 128MB on the card, But in Display Properties it said it was 512MB...so it was takeing a bit of ram of the system, And I was useing 1GB ram.
