| I Drive A Mac  |  Ghost DVD drive, cant find much info So I got this drive for free and it works, well the only testing I did was playing a dvd and it worked flawlessly. It looks like an OEM drive for a dell or some sort of big name computer. Here is some info. Toshiba Samsung TS-H652 It says it was made in October 2006 so its not too old. I ordered an external enclosure because the DVD burner in my mac is not dual layer and from the front label it appears to burn DL dvds. Would anyone else be willing to try and dig up some background info? It also has a light scribe tag on it which is exciting, I have never used a lightscribe drive. +rep of course for all help. | |

Seems pretty good to me in the past year and half I've had it. Has an odd quirk though - sometimes when you eject it doesn't stop spinning the disk, so the tray comes out with the disk still spinning. First time it did this I was worried the disk would be all scratched, but it never is. Other than that, I've burnt CDs, DVDs, video DVDs and it performs pretty well. Thats wierd, I have the same drive also but It's never done that before. The only "problem" I have is that some 16x dvd's burn at 18x and some don't. But I doubt that's the drive. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I Drive A Mac | Re: Ghost DVD drive, cant find much info Yeah I have heard that the media is the real reason behind speed issues. Cheap DVDs burn a lot slower than some better ones but I am sure some people get lucky. Its good to know that a few people on here have this drive. | |
