| So I just got a 4Gb SDHC card in the mail. My first act was to cram it into my front-panel card reader (a no-name "64-in-one" type). It doesn't auto-detect, hangs Vista's explorer or cmd when you try to access it. So I try Linux (Ubuntu 7.10). It doesn't detect there either, but if I have it in, it also makes the whole reader wonky-- it ignores the CF card in the other slot. Finally, on boot, it sits there if I don't remove it-- on BOOT! So I stick it in my camera (Canon A550) and it seems to come up fine in Vista inside the camera. But what if I want to use it for ReadyBoost? Do I need to toss my (new 11/07) card reader, and if so, in exchange for what? | ||

| There are some important differences in how SD and SDHC cards function so if you want to have a card reader you'll have to get one that explicitly states that it is SDHC compatible. Seeing how SDHC compatibility is not the only problem you have I say ditch the card reader and get a newer one from a respectable company. | ||

| Yeah, I learned the hard way about SD and SDHC differences. I have a Samsung camera that is 2yrs old and bought a 4gb SDHC card a few months ago when BestBuy had a wicked sale on them. It didn't work in my camera. Luckily my camera also uses Memory Stick, so I exchanged it for a 4gb MS. But like Hibiki said, the best thing to do is get a new reader. Make sure it specifically states that it supports SDHC. | ||

What is a 'respectable' company these days? I thought these were basically commodity items? It looks an awful lot like Newegg.com - SABRENT CRW-UINB 52-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal Card Reader w/ USB 2.0 Port supports SDHC/VISTA - Retail (right down to the "64-in-1" box.) I recieved it as a gift then threw the box out, so I can't tell if it was supposed to do SDHC. Still, I'm surprised that it makes the entire reader throw a hissy. A new card reader won't solve most of my problems. Some plutonium though... ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
