Default Dead Printer?

I have a HP Officejet 7110 printer sitting in front of me that I'm trying to fix for a family member. The thing is 6-7 years old, and the scanner and copy features haven't worked for over a year.

The problem is the printer simply will not print anything. I get an error stating the document failed to print whenever I try to print with it. Plug & Play will not detect the printer, and the manual setup I tried proved futile. I have tried two different printer cables also, and unplugged and replugged the device in multiple times. I have also done a hard reset to no avail. Reseating the ink cartridges did nothing. I have tested the printer on two separate computers with their firewalls and AV both disabled.

The only possible cause left with the printer I can see is the color ink is out. However, I don't see how this would stop the computer from detecting the printer or printing in black & white.

Before I call this thing dead, is there anything else I've missed?

its dead, even if there were something you could do, youve exhausted pretty much every option, and as far as im concerned, anything that requires you to jump through this many hoops to get working isnt worth keeping.

They are so cheap now that companies damn near pay you to purchase a one. If it was a venerable HP4 or something similar I would say go for the repair. The 7110 doesn't really give you too many options for repair since it is so integrated. It's a good all in one device but if something has broken on it and it isn't under warranty, you will want to look at a new one.
