A friend of mine callde and saked me about this problem ( he's might bring it by tommorow )

The laptop bios see's the drive but no install cd see's it . He says he can boot up using a live cd ( linux) and move files and put stuff on the hdd and like d/l'd songs , but he cant actually install an OS on the HDD. He also said he has tryed two different drives........

My question/s is

1 - Anyone run into this and is it a driver type problem ( like a floppy install type deal)

2 - If its the controller for the hard drive , are they easy to replace

EDIT - Ok , so he brought it over just now ........ its a Gateway MP6954 and here's a spec page on it

Mace, if you have a usb floppy drive or a usb thumb drive, check out the drivers I found a link for here. Also, you can slipstream them into Xp if you use Nlite.

Further down in that same thread, I also link to the DriverPacks.net > Portal > News site. You may want to look into those.

I had the exact same problem with my current laptop and XP on both 32 and 64 bit versions, but with those text mode drivers, it's all good now.

I took a look and i think your right its not seeing the drive cuz I need the drivers ( like using a floppy / F6 method )

gonna give Nlite a try just for kicks , If i cant figure it out I'll use/get a thumb drive or floppy

Gee, I guess I got here to late for the party. Though it sounds like I will have to check out that NLite thing....
