| My computers doesn't seem to want to turn off after I click shutdown. I'm pretty sure it's not a windows issue. What happens is the computer goes all the way through the shutdown process and then it turns off for a split second and restarts. I'm thinking it's the power supply. It doesn't always do this though. It can happen for a week straight and then not come up for a while. Is there anything else I should check? I will do a fresh install just to be 100% sure its not windows. Specs: SuperMicro mobo 2x 2.4 ghz Xeon 2 gb rd800 ram Can't read the specs on the power supply right now due to the case. The PSU came with the mobo and cpu in a freebie score. It was used in a server environment so it can't be all that bad. | ||

| I would think it's either a sticky switch, the cable from the switch to the mobo or the mobo itself. The power supply doesn't send a turn-on signal. It turns on when the mobo asks for power :-) But it could be Windows just telling it to restart. And it could be a virus/spyware telling it not to shutdown. | ||

| I just kind of worries me that it turns off for a split second before going to the POST screen. I can hear the drives start to spin down and power back up again. I will check the switch tomorrow though. Got a little bit of homework today. ![]() Does the power supply have relay that cuts the power after the shutdown sequence? Thanks for the advice. At least I have a starting point now instead of stabbing at it in the dark. | ||

| If you'll follow the wires from the switch to the mobo you'll find just 2 wires going to 2 pins. If the pins or wires are shorted intermitantly then it may restart randomly. But to be truthful I doubt if it's a switch or cabling, it maybe, but I doubt it. I suspect the mobo. | ||

| That doesn't seem like very promising news. I'm sure it probably won't even be worth the trouble of replacing this board. It is kind of dated. I guess I'll have to see what I can find with the switch, way too lazy to tear into it right now but I'll have some more time tomorrow. I really hope its something small. Oh well. I'm picking up a laptop for college in the next month or two anyways. Thanks for the advice so far. Keep it coming. ![]() | ||
