Default Promise SATA 300 TX2plus PCI SATA

Greetings,

I recently installed one of these cards. My computer recognizes the card, but the card doesn't recognize any HDs attached. I think there is a problem w/ the card's bios, if that makes any sense.

Suggestions, please?

Have you tried contacting tech support, or checking there online FAQ's? Maybe the drives you are trying to connect are in some way not compatible with the system. Have you tried the SATA drives connected directly to the motherboard (or in another system if this one doesn't have sata?)
Can you provide more data (the drives in question?) or should we assume it is all the same as in your previous post about this card?

Hardware (same as previous post):

Maxtor IDE
WD Raptor 150 GB 10k SATA
SONY VAIO PCV-RX891 P4 2.8

I have registered the card and sent Tech Support an email. No reply yet.
Haven't hooked Raptor to a SATA mobo...don't know anyone that has one. But the drive works. Was able to format, partition, and load Win XP on it through the card on my PC. But now the card won't recognize any drives at all.

Thanks for replying!

I poked around w/ it some more this morning. Here's what happens:

After turning on power, main BIOS posts. I hit F1 to continue to boot.
Computer tries to boot from card. The following message is displayed:
"Promise SATA 300 TX2plus PCI SATA - BIOS 1.00.0.34 2003 updated in 2004.
Detecting......................................... ............................."
The detecting continues for quite a while. Then it sits for maybe 5 mins. Then this briefly displays:
"No Device Found"
"BIOS not installed"
Then it boots Windows from my IDE HD.

Any ideas on how to load BIOS onto the card?

Thanks!

Why do you have to hit F1 to during the main BIOS post? are you getting an error message? Does it still fail to boot if you disconnect the IDE drive?
Does windows correctly see that you have the promise card installed?
Typicially to update the bios if there is a newer version you would boot from a floppy or another bootable device and run the software provided from the manufacture.

It looks like the computer is trying to boot off a device attached to the card, not finding one, and then going to the next device (the IDE HDD).

This tells me that either the Raptor is not being recognized by the card, or is not a bottable device. Once the machine boots off the IDE drive, can you see the Raptor in Windows?

Not sure why it wants to go to BIOS upon booting. Message says something like "Hardware error found - hit F1 to continue, F2 to enter BIOS." I've been all over BIOS and see no error.

I'll disconnect the IDE drive and try to boot solely from the card (should I have any HDs attached to the card?). Then I'll load the Boot floppy I made from the card's software - maybe that will reload the card's BIOS. Am I correct in assuming the card's BIOS software is different from the drivers?

In Device Manager Windows XP Pro sees the card, and all drivers are indicated as working correctly. But any HDs (IDE or SATA) attached to the card are not recognized or found.

"It looks like the computer is trying to boot off a device attached to the card, not finding one, and then going to the next device (the IDE HDD)." - I think so too. However, I have tried to change the boot order in BIOS to boot from floppy or Optical CD next, but it won't do it. Just goes to the IDE HD.

"This tells me that either the Raptor is not being recognized by the card" - Correct again. The Raptor is connected to the card. Windows sees and indicates the card is operating normally, but does not see any HD hooked to the card.

Yes if you are trying to boot from the card you should have a drive attached to the system. The fact that you are getting that hardware error makes me wonder about the card. If you pull the SATA card does the error go away?
Yes the card bios is different from the drivers for it.

I don't think the hardware error has anything to do w/ the card. I've been getting it for months, no matter what (w/ or w/out the card). Come to think of it, it might have something to do w/ the CPU Fan Speed indicator.

I'll try to boot w/ Raptor hooked to the card, then will load the floppy. Hmmm...I hope the BIOS software is bundled w/ the drivers. Don't see how it could've gotten erased from the card.

Located new BIOS and re-flashed the card. Didn't work.
Nothing else discussed worked either.
I'll be offline until Xmas. Will try again then.
This is a real head-scratcher....
