Default low level shock

Hey guys,

I was changing out a couple of fans on my neighbors computer today and noticed that whenever i would touch say a rivet or something metal i would get a small tingle.
I thought it was just in my head at first but it kept doing it. (sorta like a week 9v on your tongue kinda thing)
I could feel it on the optical so i removed it and plugged it in on the side of the computer.
yep little tingle.
I unplugged the power to the optical and yep still little tingle. i unplugged the cable and all was fine.
I repeated said experiment with the HDD, yep little tingle.

What do you guys think, ground problem? or maybe PS?

If so would you have the same problem with an acrylic case?

thanks,

Don

This used to happen to me a lot with our old Gateway desktop, only the shock was more on par with a novelty toy. I think it had something to do with the motherboard standoffs. At any rate, acrylic doesn't conduct electricity, so I would think that would be a solution.

grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
I figured it out.

The A-holes that hooked up the wiring in my basement didn't bother to hook up the ground.
I noticed my ground led wasnt lit on my strip and decided to investigate all the plug-ins.
Nope no ground.
I figured this out after it fried one of MY hard drives. d#@^ it, there goes my games hard drive.

I knew I shoulda wired the basement myself.
well I know what i'm doing on my day off tomorrow!!

Thanks for the reply Baka

Ouch, sorry about your hard drive, that sucks. Sometimes there is a downside to keeping everything important on a different drive >.<
