Default SATA card/Raptor Hd recog. problem

Hello,

Suspects:

PROMISE SATA300 TX2plus PCI SATA II

Maxtor 180 GB IDE (Primary as of now)

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive (new and not recognized)

Computer is a SONY VAIO PCV-RX891 P4 2.8 - not sure about exact mobo type.

Purchased the PROMISE card to enable my older mobo to run the new SATA Raptor. Hooked everything up, managed to format, partitian, and load Windows XP Pro onto Raptor. But it was unstable, and kept crashing. I reloaded windows a few times, and now the computer won't even register it in "Device Manager."

Status:

Right now I have the Maxtor running throught the IDE port on the Promise card, and, after a long time, and assorted messages, it eventually boots up. I run "Search for Hardware Changes" to get the computer to recognize the Raptor, but nada. Power to Raptor is ok, I hear it clicking and whirling, and I have tried 3 different SATA cables, in both Promise SATA Ports.

I know the Raptor isn't dead, as it was more-or-less working. Formatting was difficult, but it eventually worked. Wondering if problem is in my BIOS. I've changed the Boot order, but no matter what, boot always seems to default to Promise card....wait wait wait...error message, to the effect of "BIOS failed to recognise Hardware"...wait wait wait...then it starts to load Windows from Maxtor. When it's finally up, no Raptor detected.

Suggestions, please?

UPDATE:

I think I've isolated the problem to the SATA card's BIOS. I don't think it's recognizing the IDE Maxtor HD properly, and it's not recognizing the SATA Raptor HD at all.

Does anyone know how I can edit/get into the Promise SATA card's BIOS to recognize the drives?
