| ok the thing is that i want to buy a sata drive and a drive enclosure so that i'll be able to boot from it at school. My point here is that i want to keep my settings and all that stuff because they're using deepfreeze. 1. my first question is: will i be able to boot from a esata drive? 2.my second question is: i'll install a os on it, i have xp and vista, should i install xp if my home computer already have vista on it. I don't know if vista has a hardware profile or something like that because if it doesn't, i'll not be able to boot from two computers. The other thing is a Serial problem, i don't want to lose my windows serial only because i'll be using it on two different computers. what should i do? | ||

| Don't know how much your school will appreciate you using your own OS to boot into their computers. I guess this all depends on what exactly you want to do. But to maybe answer your questions: 1. Yes, if you can set the BIOS to boot from an eSATA. 2. If your home machine has Vista on it, use the XP. I don't think you can use two instances of the same copy of windows simultaneously. My suggestion would be either 1) Visit PortableApps and try to find the programs you're wanting to use and install them on your external drive or, 2) get a Linux Distro and install that onto your external. You can pick up distros of Linux that are already tuned for media and such... but I can't think of any off the top of my head. | ||
