Default PSU problem?

First I'll give you my specs:

custom build in a Antec 900 case
Asus p5n32 se sli deluxe MOBO
(2) EVGA 7600GS 512 MB GPU in SLI mode
2 GB OCZ gold ddr2 800
250GB seagate HD
Intel core2duo e4300 1.8 CPU
600w Xion sli certified PSU

problem:

Powered the sytem up 2 days ago just web surfing for about 3-4 hours, no issues. Loaded up BF2 and got into a multplayer server. Played for about 3 minutes and the system completely powered down. Tried to restart, fans came on, led lights came on, cd drive cycled and it shut down before the HD could read. Waited about 5 minutes, hit the reset on the PSU and the system booted fine. Loaded BF2 again and got the same result. Complete power shut down after a few minutes in the server. Does this sound like a faulty PSU or could there be a bigger issue here?

This system powered down one time the night before while watching a video on win media player. About a month ago, I ran the stress test that comes with Nvidia control panel and all was fine.

I'm thinking this might be a thermal issue; possibly the CPU heatsink isn't seated properly, or maybe the PSU is overheating. Are any of your fans blocked/busted?

First thing I would do is reseat the heatsink, removing all Thermal Interface Material and applying new TIM. Make sure you seat the heatsink properly, with the same amount of torque on all 4 heatsink mounting screws.

Definately sounds like a heat problem, although with an Antec 900 I can't really understand how your case could have a heat problem with all those fans.

But as Joose said, its probably the CPU not seated properly. My old system used to do exactly the same thing when I forgot to turn the w/c pump on! (couldnt be arsed wiring a relay)

Damn. These two specimens of pansiness beat me to it. But yeah, it sounds like a thermal overload is tripping somewhere.

yes, the heatsink was slightly dislodged and I also discovered the fan on the main GPU was inop and the othe GPU fan is on its way out.

Shop couldn't duplicate the problem and it hasn't shutdown since. I'm assuming the heatsink not being locked down properly was the issue.
