Default EX eSATA HD's Freeze Sys - Can anyone help?

I have a pair of seagate pro esata hd drives and am wondering what my problem I am having is common with the esata drives in general or just mine.

When ever I try to transfer anything to the drive, happens more with large files, the drive with hang up my computer, i.e make my mouse freeze my sound to stop/stutter and then the light on the drive flash off then on and it unhangs. ( I have even had two blue screen when I try to turn one on)

I have tried checking seagate but can't find any info on it. anyone have an experience or suggestions to offer?

thanks

check to see if there is an updated driver for your sata controler. Also there might be a bios update for it as well.

you try hooking the drives up to a normal sata port, to verify the drives are good?

I don't see how I could seeing as the only options are esata or usb. besides I have used the drives, formatted and partitioned them. it is just when transferring that things get wonky/glitchy.

Does it do the same thing when connected by USB?

Also - try unplugging your eSATA disks from the PC and shutting it down - once off, plug them back in and restart - see if that solves it

simple.. take the hard drive out of the external case, and then connect it to your computer.

no I don't believe so, it does not do it through usb. in fact when I have it plugged in via the usb the software it came with actually recognizes it while through esata it does not.

I have tried the shutting off and on thing it doesn't work/help. The thing is my bios and xp all recognize the drive no problem. The software it comes with does not. Also the diagnostic software it comes with also , when testing, fails all but one test. I wanted to and update the firmware but for the life of me I can't find any on the seagate site and the software they gave to do that won't let me. stuck in a freak loop I am on this thing.

I don't know if I would want to go through all that, seems like a pain to have to.

not really practical. The motherboard works fine, I have no problem with it so why would I send it back? Also I bought the drives a bit back (about a month before I built my computer) so I couldn't if I wanted. Besides I don't think either is bad I think its more of a software then a hardware issue.

Your next step is to contact the manufacture, as the new drivers / firmware doesnt work for you.

Uh nice edit you did there "trying" to be nice instead of telling me to stop asking for help. If the manufacture was of any help I would not be asking for other assistance. So why do you keep bothering to post when you really have not idea what your talking about or offering anything useful at all.

ThrillKill has been doing nothing but trying to help you in this thread. He has provided several solutions and if you can't be bothered to try them out, don't blame him if your PC doesn't work properly. It's just rude frankly.

^^ What he said... You are the one who doesn't appear to know what you are talking about here. ThrillKill actually knows a hell of a lot more than many PCA members - so quit your b!tching.

Here are your options to isolate the cause by elimination:
Test your disks without the enclosure,
Contact the manufacturer of the disk for support/firmware
Test the eSATA ports on your motherboard with another eSATA drive
Test the eSATA drive/s on another motherboard with esata ports.

Talk to us when you have done this.

If it's all "too hard" or "too much trouble" for you then sorry - you aren't likely to find much more help.

Troubleshooting isn't easy - but sometimes you just have to go through it.
