![]() | according to my dad (who knows jack-all about computers) the reason my computer is running slow, hot, and crashes often is becasue there's dust inside of it. basically, i have to admit i'm lazy about cleaning my computer, and there is a fair ammount of dust in there right now, which isn't helped by the fact that i have the side pannel off to cut a window in it, (which is progressing at a pitiful pace ) but anyways, i just wanted to find out from the experts about what dust actually does, because i highly doubt that the crashes are because of overheating, becasue my last computer just used to reset when it overheated (not b/c of dust, just the fan was broken) and there's not really a whole lot of dust in there, and even last time i cleaned it, the temp only dropped by about 1 degree...btw, it runs between 36 and 38 degrees on a warm day any help? anyone understand my little rant?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Your Father may just be trying to get you to clean your sheit. His ideas, however, are not without some merit. Dust accumulation can definately heat things up. Your components wearing a blanket of your own dead skin! I have heard claims that dust can short electrical contacts (I won't even attempt to back that up). Lastly, even if the dust has no ill effect in your rig....you can't have a pimp rig that looks like sheit!

| Apex Tech God | Well when you think about it dust in gernal is not good for any type of electronics, Dust can also lead to corrosion in the long run. the dust, combined with the humidity in the air, plus the natural oils in our skin from hadnling the components can lead to corrosion, not much but it adds over time....and of course it can have a small effect on temprature Some effective ways to reduce dust , you can add filters to your fans, or have more intake than outake to keep a positive airpressure in your case, which can also help reduce dust |

(some time in the next two or three years, if i ever start working on it again... )
