Default Raptors

i was wondering if getting 2 serial ata wd raptors will really make a difference in running raid. i was thinking of getting the seagate 120's at 7200 rpm with sata. i know the raptors are 10000 but is the loss of memory storage worth it.

Seagate SATA drives are running a little slower than higher performance PATA drives. But on par with common PATA drives. What they do have going for for them, is it's SATA and makes it more common compared to Raptors on the price factor, but performance as I've heard it isn't anything to write home about.

Raptors for their high cost show what the performance benefits are. Honestly, I won't be buying SATA til they bridge the gap and give better performance at a reasonable price. But that's my own opinion on the matter. You won't be losing points for "only having PATA drives" for another year or two I think.

So if you're looking at SATA for performance, Raptors are your best bet.

I would get a raptor as a boot drive and raid two 180's.
You'll have massive storage and performance.
