Default advantages to using 3700 ddr for overclocking?

Does anyone know if there is an advantage to using 3700 speed ddr when overclocking on an 800 mhz bus? It sounds reasonable to me on paper, but I wanted to get the consensus before I go ahead and actually buy anything.

Well, Corsair TwinX of course.

Actually I was looking at the latency on the 3700/4000's... Seems the latency on the 3200 is 2-3-3 while on the 3700 and 4000's its 3-4-4-8. I have to wonder if the higher bus speed offsets that minor latency difference in an O/C'd environment.

well, some of the pimps were ding testing on this over in this thread here:

http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....threadid=10841

so I would tend to go with lower latency vs. a higher FSB...

Intel or AMD platform?

That is the single most important question.

The power of increased bandwidth and FSB should far outweigh the importance of latency for an Intel system ...... especially if overclocking is the goal.

AMD systems are much less likely to achieve massive bus speeds and therefore latency is much more of an issue.

It all depends on how far you can push your processor. If you know the maximum FSB you are able to attain you can plan which type of RAM will get you the most out of your processor at the lowest timings.

I guess Ill have to wait until I get all the parts... Right now Im planning on a P4 3.2c, with the above board and whichever xms ram i need... more than likely the twinx 4000 ddr based on what Putwig is suggesting.

Obviously Im looking to OC so Im looking to find what ram ill get the most benefit out of... cost isnt an issue on this.

If you truly are hoping to OC you should get the 2.4C, not only will it save you huge coin ...... it will oc better.

Remember, Intel CPU's are multi-locked.

The 2.4C is 12 x 200
The 3.2C is 16 x 200

The lower multiplier of the 2.4C will give you much more headroom for FSB overclocking ....... and yes, PC4000 is what you want. What mobo?
