Uhh.. unless you want one of those ultra expensive GPS units for cars like Alpine puts out, just get a road atlas like the rest of us. Even the car ones are more appearance than anything IMHO. But then again I'm the son of a trucker, my mommy taught me to drive through hell with a load of ice in the back, and drive it out again.

to keep from falling off a cliff try looking where your going.
if you want a car specific one those can get kind of pricy. so i suggest a good handheld model you can load maps into. i have a garmin etrex legend and it comes loaded with the basic maps of north America. Remember they all have this warm up time and look for one with memory to add maps. Which means if its under $200 buxs it probably only has compass and coordinates.

The road atlas is good

A combat controller friend of mine in the Air Force said they use the e-trax GPS systems instead of the heavy GPS they typically give them. I'm not sure how many maps you can load up on it, but check out Garmin's website.

Dont need a GPS system man (unless you just want more gadgets). My folks and myself got to New York with directions from Map Quest just fine.

Ive already got it mapped out on Rand Mcnally , going to Mt Rushmore first then Omaha and other places, but the fact is I love gadgets and this will also work as a write off. Thx Fellas

Hell yeah, NoSlak. I'm with you, a GPS would be pretty cool to play with. I would still keep both Rand and McNally nearby though.

i use a garmin 3 + gps and it is great. i have it setup so that it connects to my ipaq so i can have some more detailed maps at my disposal too. i even used it to get to my hotel in italy when i went and had no problems what so ever.

the 3 + is quite accurate also typically putting me with in 15 feet of my true destination point.
