Unhappy Technical Difficulties

Well heres my story.

I turned my monitor on the other day and it said OS Missing, and I was like bugger, so I rebooted and the system came up fine except now my CDROM is not being recognized again bugger. So this morning I turn the computer on and cant find Primary master and stuck at Secondary:

I have little time these days to actually dismantle everything and check whats going on so any help is greatly appreciated.

Which os you running? What mb and such do you also have? I had a same issue with my burner and xp awhile back...maybe a bios update would help you out.

sounds like a flaky IDE controller, or the OS needs to be reinstalled. If you're reinstalling the OS and you're getting error while copying files, then the IDE controller you're using is hosed. (If integrated on motherboard, then you'll have to a) get a new motherboard or b) buy a PCI IDE card which will soak up all PCI bandwidth.)

Have fun...let us know how it turns out...

[EDIT] flashing the BIOS sounds like a great idea...and specs of the PC including OS would also help

[EDIT2] looks like me2 beat me to it....

Like pimp_joose said it made be a flaky ide controller..if you have another ide cable try using that...also if you go into your device manager and you delete the cdrom drivers or what was being weird and it will rebuild and fix it on reboot. Also check and see if you have your cdrom setup right on the back of the cdrom...if it is master or slave...then double check with your settings in bios...hopefully it isnt a flaky ide controller but try and see if anything of these suggestions help.

Well it seems as if it is the power supply thats the issue. When I disconnected 2 fans and my CDROM the computer found my HDD and booted up like nothing was wrong...

Finally found the issue... After pulling fans, replacing the powersupply and having the same issue.

Replaced the Burner with a 32X CDROM and she boots up. It was my Philips CDRW 804 anytime it has power it kills the boot.

Has anyone run into this before?

Looks like the drive is pulling too much amperage...likely defective.
