Default Dlink, netgear or a linksys?

I need to buy a 4 port, standard router and wanted the opinions of you all as to what brand to purchase.

I have read good and bad things about each companys routers, so would like to know what you reccomend and a reason why would be nice. Thanks all

Whoever is cheaper after rebates. Mine cost me about $25 after rebates. I think I got a Netgear wireless. I have had problems with the range of the wireless. Not sure if it was the way it was setup cuz as soon as it had troubles, I ran some cable.

If i have to choose between only those brands, then I'd go with the D-Link. They're great little units. I use 'em here at woek whenever they decide to put 4 users in an office (happens all the time - don't laugh.)

Great Idea Chrome. I've got a P3 500 that is running RH 8 that I might use as a file server. Add some NIc's and BLAM, router. Thanks Mr. Rust.

was runnin with a linksys 4 port router for about 6 months and i loved it, but it was always very hot so i always had it standing on end to keep it cooler. then last week it died. i wanna get another one since it worked great and the setup was simple. but im not sure now. maybe it was just a bad unit.......?

DLink is ****.

Get a Linksys VERSION 3. Version 3 is the important part, because they're actually cisco routers. Cisco bought linksys and they modified all the hardware so its alot better than it actually was.

How do you know if its the right one? it has a cisco logo on the front of it.

Other than that, Id say netgear. I have a netgear switch and its amazing. I cant tell you much about thier routers because i've never used one, but if its anything like the switch it should be great.

Dlink get last place. Friday night we were using a 604 at a friends lan party, thing overloaded all the time, and would stop responding for no reason. We flashed it 3 times, not any improvement. He also claims it does this once in a while normally. This also happened to my girlfriends 604. Also the UI really sucks and there arent a whole lot of options for em.
