Default DVD Burner?

I'm in the market for a DVD +/- burner, but whats a good one? what one is going to put work the longest?

I have a OLD HP cd burner (4x max, was WAY top of the line when I got it like 6 or 7 years ago) that has put out at least 3000 cds, I want a DVD burner that going to last like that.

I've got (well, I have access to) an external HP 4X DVD+RW (DVD300e)... it's been a pretty solid little drive so far. I've only burned about 6 DVDs though...

Still, I saw a report recently that says where-as everyone is migrating to +RW, -RW is still the most compatible file format.

They did release a bunch of new drives that do both... but I can't say anything about 'em... haven't played with 'em...

I'm hesitant to spend any money on a DVD burner until one format becomes standard and when the DVD players adopt that format.
