Exclamation LiteOn DVD Drive Face Plate Probs

BLAAARG!!!...

Had to let that out... Okay... I was taking the face plate off my LiteOn drive and when pulling it off, the Bay jutted out a bit... It's now stuck and won't push in all the way (about half a centimeter away from going in all the way) and will come out about a total of a centeimeter and a half.... Any ideas how I can fix this?

That's the basic prob, more info on it here... Just ignore this if the problems really obvious or something..
I think it was something to do with the emergency, I've got two drives screwed like this.. With the first, I tried forcing it back in, and now it's stuck in there and the emergency release button is stuck way in back...

Didn't you have the drive out of the case when you did this? I don't think I'm understanding you correctly. Do you mean the drawer or the whole drive?

You need to push in the clutch, then shift down to granny gear and.....j/k...lol

I'm like Hojo, you need to explain or show some pics if you can of exactly whats going on there.

Sorry, I didn't put in a whole lot of detail cause I figured it may be a really simple problem.... Okay, here it goes again, as much detail as possible...

I was taking the face plate off of my CD-RW (LiteOn LTR-52327S). Now, when taking it off, the CD Tray was pulled out a bit.. When I finally got the face plate off, the Tray was stuck out a little bit, (maybe 1cm) and could move about a 1cm in and out...

When pushing it back and forth though, I could see the emergency release button coming in and out. (With LiteOn drives, and least the two I have, the emergency release is a small button hooked onto a gear, and when you push it back, it pushes back and to the side, like on a circular track). I saw that coming back and forth when I moved it in and out.

Fiddled with it some more, and eventually pulled the tray out (forcefully) by hand.. It could still only move back and forth a little bit, but something I now noticed was that as I pushed the tray in, I could see the laser mechanism coming up to read the CD, and when it reached the top where it's supposed to be, that's when the tray wouldn't push back anymore...

Anyways, it sucks having a CD-RW with a stuck tray.. Any ideas how I can get it to it's original lustre with a fully working tray?

Oh yeah, the emergency switch does nothing when I press it, other than move the tray back and forth a bit. And I've tried plugging it in and pressing the Open/Close button, and it won't open or close it anymore than I already can by hand...

Hope you don't have to think too hard on this one, heh...

It sounds like to me, you just jumped the track a bit and the teeth arn't in sync anymore.
never, never, never, forcefully do anything to a computer or you'll spend needless money on replacment parts.

Just ask my nieghbor(LOL)

If I were you, I'd open the back case and just take a look see.
You were taking the face plate off, So I am assuming you know a little about the drive.

Everything comes apart real easy so, pay attention to the order in which you remove stuff. Label it if nesassary.
you'll prolly find the track underneath the tray has jumped a tooth, and the timming is off.
If something is out of place or missing it will be obvious.
(just ask my neighbor)LOL
Like the other guys said, a pic of what ya got would be helpful.

Fae', the only things I can suggest is that you remove the front of the CD tray (they almost always come off by unclipping & sliding upwards and the front of the drive too - in that order - , then try it again. If everything works, then the problem is something in the face plates jamming. If it doesn't work, there's a chance you've got some sort of obstruction in the draw sliding mechanism.

Also, try pushing the CD tray in as far as it will go, or pulling it out as far as possible before powering up. There's a chance your ham-fistedness has confused the drive position detection & this might fix it.

BTW, I don't know what you're expecting from the "emergency" eject, all they do is open a powered down drive by a cm or so, enough for you to pull the draw out by hand.

I don't rate your chances of fixing this problem to be honest, we all make mistakes & breaking one drive is regrettable, but breaking two just sounds like ****wittedness to me. I'm not trying to be rude to a new guy, but you're stretching my credulity here - after you broke the first one, didn't you realise you might have done something wrong ?

BTW, where are you from then Fae' ? I put "LiteOn LTR-52327S" in Google & the first page of matches were in French & German.

Uploaded a bunch of pics here...

Regrettably, they're the best my camera can do, and I doubt they'll be helpful at all.. Look at'em if you want...
(Just uploaded them due to the "demand" for'em, heh, again, doubt they're very helpful)....

Gonna try cracking the sucker open now.... Wish me luck...
Anything I should be peticularly wary of when opening my CD Drive?

Hey Prong...
Ya boost-in meh boo-alls...hee!!

NP man, I prolly was on the third or fifth edit anyway...been a long Tuesday!! lmao

So what do I do?...Take my own Lite-on 52x32x52 CD-RW apart to see WTF do0d, could possibly be doing...

I got her fingered out too...He's blowin' it, cause the way the gears mesh and the spindles are solid on each end, and the stops for the tray are configured..."Going Ape-Sh!t" is more the case than "heavy handed".
Lite-ons might not have as tight as specs as say, a Plextor, but the action is smooth and quiet, pretty much idiot proof.

I guess since I'm in here I'll change the LED from green/red to
Blue/red...Muhahahhaha

My thoughts are in line with the others in that you probably jumped a tooth. I've never owned a Lite on so I can't say what the odds are on fixing it. Sorry.

Hey everyone, I fixed the problem...

First off, sole reason I posted pics was cause people asked.. I just took like, 20 some and uploaded them. I knew most were cruddy, but I figured one angle or something may be decent.. Didn't bother sifting through the cr*p as I was busy tinkering with the drive...

Anyways, the problems fixed.. I got desparate and opened the bugger's case.. I didn't wanna try before as it opened from the bottom, and thought I'd have to take the whole thing apart cause the gears were on top... Dumb me, the top slips off when you undo the bottom (was just really firm)...

Anyways, I guess all that happened was it jumped the track.. But it wasn't the tray that jumped the track, it was the emergency switch.. It's hooked to a gear too... It ends up the emergency switch was catching and lot letting the drive move much (it was only letting it move the same distance that the emergency switch could cover, if that makes any sense)...

Anyways, I had to pull off the emergency switch, then slide the tray back into place... Then I just reset the switch into it's right place, hooked up with all the right teeth on the gears...

I had never had a prob like that with a drive before, and was pretty desparate... Sorry if I pissed off anyone, heh.. Thanks again though!

those pics were not what we expected.

sh!t..LMFAO
