| Apex Techie Lite | simple question, hard to find answer. I have a P4 2.53ghz Intell chip. I have a SY-P4X400 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition mobo. My board can handle about 3.02ghz, so I would like to push the chip to about 3ghz if its SAFE to do so. what is the safest speed I can OC it to, and whats the SIMPLEST way of doing it. Please don't flame on me, as you can see I'm a newbie, and I have checked archives but no one else has my board it seems and the topics aren't very clear. Thank you for your time and help. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 120GB HD @ 7200rpm 8mb cashe Intel P4 2.53ghz cpu Soyo SY-P4X400 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition motherboard Radeon 9700 Pro video card Pioneer DVR-A04 DVD-RW Asus 16x10x40x CD-RW 4 - 80mm case fans (4 blue leds per fan) 8 - 2.0 USB ports | |

| hhmmm, first off, there is no safe overclock. No matter how hard you push components if you push them beyond what they are supposed to they break. you just have to push it till your happy or when you start getting errors and problems. the easiest way to do that is to raise the fsb, but you might not be able to get 3 ghz. It depends on everything else in your system too. | ||

| Right on jhoop, there is no such thing as safe overclocking, I myself am running an Intel 2.4C@3.4GHz, but I never stated it was safe to do so, I am lucky it runs stable but this CPU will never be safe now that I have broken it in. You want stability, stick to stock speeds. You want speed, and are willing to accept the risks and the fact that safe overclocking is non-existent, then overclock as far as you can push it. Once you get windows prefetch or misc. operating system error(s), its time to turn down your overclock and reinstall windows to rectify your now currupt O/S data.
Incorrect That old trick is no longer used due to the fact that it killed CPU's via electrical damage! | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Problem with overclocking your p4 is that if you adjust the voltage even 0.2v you have the risk of SNDS (Sudden Northie Death Syndrome). Another problem is you can only overclock your FSB, which will become unstable if you dont have locked AGP and PCI dividers. Godd luck overclocking. | ||
