| Apex Techie Lite | I changed coolants to WW from swiftie because after a while of getting high 30s idle temperature with watercooling (and a pretty good setup) on my xp 2000+ I began to firmly believe Hydrx and therefore temps just sucked. there was a little spill but i could have sworn that nothing got on my components. Now I HAVE to assume that SOME amount of water got on SOMETHING because after getting everything fixed and powering up, well, i couldn't power up. I played with the power headers and switch and it would turn on erratically. After two days of trying everything it simply would NOT power up any more. Today I used a screwdriver to connect the two power terminals and have been powering up that way ever since, how embarassing? i think the problem lies in my (a) pwr headers, (b) pwr switch, (c) psu, (d) motherboard. or a combination of any of these. ADVICE? | |

| Apex Techie Lite | I guess you didn't comprehend me BECAUSE I HAVE TO. it's the only way I can currently turn on my motherboard. btw, my switch just fell apart with like negative 3249872349872397 amount of force. Guess that was the problem. *goes to look for a new pushbutton switch* | |

| I had full comprehension, what I was lacking was a good excuse as to why you had not already begun to find a new power switch. You don't HAVE to power it on with a screwdriver, you can borrow computer time or use another till you figure out the problem. If it were AT, you'd have shocked yourself to hell and back twice, with that kind of "on button." | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | k, first of all i never called him a dumbass. second of all you guys are ganging up on me, so wtf? lol....k wtfever, thx for the help. btw kayin, the reason i didn't already start looking for a new one is because it was the LAST thing i suspected to not be functioning properly. | |

| Thats because your the dumbass for calling him a dumbass, I saw you post dumbass and then edit it. Don't play tardy with us, because we dont like tards who do stupid things like turn their computer on with a screwdriver. . You could have just spliced the wires and touched them together for a second and it would have turned on. And if it happened to be an AT power supply YOU WOULD NOT BE HERE RIGHT NOW to tell the story because you would've been dead, unless you have a plastic handled screwdriver, which I don't have. | ||

| OK guys...chill..... he did edit it. His methods were slopy and dangerous. We are so used to n00bs comin here doing the unthinkable and blamin PR. Whatever you do, just be carefull. If you have a screw driver than you must have wire to jump the switch in the mean time. Peace. | ||

| I've turned on my PC with a screwdriver more than once, but thats besides the point. The point is, he came here looking for help, not a safety lecture. and "kayin" gave him a smartass answer instead of help. If you look at the first two posts and see the second as being anything besides the product of a time-wasting tool, you need help. Doesn't look like a person concerned with anothers safety, but a prick jumping at the chance to put somebody down. you are addressing the wrong issue, and a screwdriver is safer than bare wire. | ||

| Sigh...tekxy already answered for me, I guess I still can call him an Asshat. But i'll give him credit for using a plastic handle screwdriver instead of a paperclip. But still a stupid thing to do. You risk setting things on fire that way, remember this rule, if it sparks, its bad. As for the switch issue, and cheap toggle switch can do in a pinch. Safer, and forum flame resistant. And if ya call kayin a dumbass, I'll be all over you like plastic on cher. | ||

| EXACTLY!. Just use your reset or standby or sleep switch. depending on the amount of switches your computer has. Our computers at school have 4 switches. haha. One for power, another for reset, another for standby, and anoter for hibernate. ****ing retarded IBM's. | ||

| actually... If I were in the biz and a customer asked me to fix it I would do it proper but seeing as you slight them I would atleast swap the actual switches so that they would still be using the power button seeing as almost all cases reset and pwr switch is the same thing with diff color wires... just have to take the time to take the front off and pop them out and back in... ![]() | ||

| When testing new mobo's on the bench I occasionally use a screwdriver if I can't find a switch. I would have never of thought of using a screwdriver for that purpose until I went into several PC repair joints, and the techies there were doing it. This was about 4 years ago or so. Just a slight tap is all you need. I would never do it inside of the case though. One slip and AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I would have used the reset button as the power on and of switch in his situation, but then I only turn my PC off to upgrade it. Ran it 6 months straight once. | ||
