Default got some Q's about OCing

ok so my system stats are at the end of my post

i took it up to 219 fsb from 166 fsb
but i changed the memory ratio to 4/3, so my 333 is at 330 right now...... i have high a$$ fsb but am i really ocing or am i cheating by changing the cpu/ram ratio????????

you're overclocking the RAM, but not the PCI or AGP busses...it's not cheating...most PCI/AGP cards won't work if they're way outta spec...the divider helps you get those uber-high clocks without frying a sound card or getting poo poo on your display.

ok so i got it runnin stable at 219 fsb
but it runs hot and i dont have efficient enough coolin at this moment, so i go back in the bios and change it back to "system default" from "user defined", and it says that it is a 3100+ and its fsb is 200..........
so i change it to 166 and save setting and sh1T, get into windows and then i restart the comp, and i get back into it and when i try to change it to default it still says its a 3100+ with 200 fsb.......got any ideas??????

Actually pimp_joose, you are mistaken.

He is running an NF2 motherboard. These boards lock the PCI and AGP buses at 33 and 66 respectively. There is no PCI / AGP divided like on older style boards.

The divider he is referring to is the FSB / memory divider. His FSB is 200 and his memory is running at 165 ( 4:3 ).

WDog, you are overclocking, but not well.

Countless tests with NF2 boards have shown that system performance declines significantly when memory is run asynchronously.

You would be better off running the memory synchrnously ( 4:4 ) and relaxing the timings if you need to.

If your DDR 2700 won't play nice at the higher FSB, you simply do benches and see whether you run better synchronously at 166( 3:3) (or whatever the highest synchronous point you are able to reach) , or asynchronously at 4:3.

Hope that makes sense.

not trying to disagree with you or anything, because theres alot of truth there, but id just like to add my own experiences with running asynchronous DRAM and FSB frequencies...

i am at 400mhz fsb, and 300mhz dram (200 / 150), and at this setting, i have ran flawlessly for over 2 months, no errors, insanely fast for what i was expecting, and managed to bring my cas down to 2.5 from 3 when i was running dram at 280mhz....also increased my 3dmark 2k1 score....to the tune of 2000 points...

i am personally inclined to believe that it might not be just synchronous, but also a magical "sweet-spot" where the frequencies dont go stepping on each others toes and just dance harmoniously even though one of them is 50/100 mhz slower...because my dram timings are better NOW, than they were BEOFORE i overclocked...cpuZ says so, and running a 100mb MemTest for a litle over 3 hours with NO ERRORS makes me feel all warm inside...seeing as how that can be hard to do..even with new ram that hasnt been overclocked...

so to summarize...look for that sweet spot, its usually the frequency where anything is possible...
