Default Abit Nf7s won't boot into windows

Just installed my new mobo, goes through post fine, but gives me the BSD when windows tries to load. The error message says, Stop: oxoooooo7b(oxf9e49640,0x00000000,0x00000000)
and says if you installed new hardware, remove hard drive contollers, hard drives, check config , and for proper termination, and check for virus. I tried my memory in all slots, tried different hard drive configurations, removed all cards except video. I sometimes can see a quick flash of the windows start up screen, then the blue screen of death appears. I think it may have something to do with the hard drive, not sure what. I have loaded safe defaults for the bios, and booting into safe mode, and even tried to boot from windows cd, it still craps out!
looking through the forums, haven't found a similar problem in here. Any ideas?

i've had problems like that as well... looks like a ram problem, try different settings with your ram, speed, timings, etc...

0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Unable to access boot device. Often, this indicates a disk controller configuration problem, or error in accessing the hard disk.

Other possible causes include the following: during initialization of the I/O system, the driver for the boot device failed to initialize the boot device (device not available, SCSI error), or the file system could not recognize the data on the boot device. Also may indicate that a virus has infected the boot sector.

EDIT: This usually happens when you have 2k or higher installed and you switch out the motherboard without running sysprep or uninstalling the old motherboard drivers. If this is what you've done, install the old board again, boot into windows (It'll work now) and go through uninstalling all olf motherboard drivers, then run sysprep.

Alternately, you can just FFR (fdisk Format & Restore) and reinstall Windows.

Could it have to do with Sata? does this need to be manualy disabled in bios? I would think it should auto detect my IDE drive. I have swapped cables and tried different configs of the cables too.

possibly...are you using the SATA drives? If not, then diable them (generally good to disable stuff if you're not using them - it saves resources) Check and make sure that the PATA header is listed in the boot order too...

Also, make sure that the HDD is being seen by the BIOS and that the IDE channel(s) are not disabled...

EDIT: Also, you didn't mention if you were using a pre existing install of XP/2000 from your old configuration.

EDIT 2: If you ARE using SATA drives and your're setting up XP, you need to supply the drivers to setup before setup begins.

Well, when installing a new mobo, you probably need to reinstall windows. Too many different components. Just format, and reinstall.

I am using Windows XP Pro. I didn't reinstall windows, I forgot to mention that, I had thougt that might be a possible problem. No Sata drive for me (yet) the hard drive is being seen in the bios. What is a PATA header? I just switched from an ASUS A7S333, and the ABIT bios is alot different.
Thanks for all the ideas guys! unfortunately I have to go to work(but I do have internet access there) and will have to wait till I get home to try some more things.
Good thing I ressurected my old K6-2 for web surfing before I started swapping!

That IS the problem. Install the old board and do the sysprep thing, or move your data and reinstall. If you've never done the sysprep thing, then the FFR is the easiest solution.

PATA is the old-style IDE header (40-pin)

ALWAYS good to do that - saves a LOT of hassle...

SYSPREP? FFR is that the same as Formatting the hard drive? I will format and reinstall when I get home tonight.
I have changed other parts before without reinstalling windows, but never swapped motherboards into an existing system before. I usually build a complete new system with a new motherboard, so I had never run into that before... thought maybe Xp was smart enough to detect the hardware change.

(Feeling like a dumbass now because I saw a thread about reinstalling windows with a motherboard change a while back, but never read it )

FFR = Fdisk Format & Reinstall

Sysprep is an imaging tool that admins use to image 2000/XP onto different hardware platforms...works awesome, but takes a bit of research to learn how to use it properly...

I'd just go the FFR route...it's the easiest and gives you a chance to 'clean up' a bit...

Same thing happened to me, but I had backed up first, expecting the issue to arise. It's windows' way of saying "We think you are installing this on another computer. Please reinstall, or swap back"

No, it's not some underhanded scheme by Microsoft...XP's looking for a specific controller using a specific driver...it's not finding a match, and doesn't know what to do. If you go through the proper procedure, you can upgrade the motherboard using the same install of XP/2000, it's just a bit more complicated than swapping in a new board.

Yeah, you're right, it's the activation. If you do boot up into windows correctly, you'll have to activate it, that's what it is

A "THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS" is due here!
I did the "FFR" when I got home tonight, Works like a champ now! This board has already shown a huge improvement over my old ASUS A7S333, raised my P.C.Pitstop scores to 1328 with just a 16 mhz overclock from stock! about a 200 point gain over the best I ever got out of that old boat anchor.
Can't wait to try some other benches

And "THANKS" to everyone else here, you've all been very helpfull!

This thread is very old, we normally sugggest starting a fresh one over digging up an ancient one, but your new so you probably didn't know..

Just for an example:

"Hi, I am having a problem with my *Insert Issue here*
This my hardware *List specs*
I have tried *XWYZ* but am having no luck, it's similar to this thread below, any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I cannot be of much help on this one, you said a fresh format does not help, and that is what fixed my problem, but I'll give it a shot.

Do you have a spare IDE HD lying around you can try instead?

Did you install the Sata Driver during install of XP?

It asks you almost at the beggining to hit F-4 or something if you need to install Sata/Raid drivers.
