Default A7N8X question

I'm using an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with a Barton +2800 and none of the multipliers above 12.5 work right. I have the cpu OCed to 2.31GHz with 400MHz fsb and when I try to use a multiplier above 12.5 my speed drops down to 1GHz or lower. This is weird because at 12 it crashes with in five minutes and at 12.5 it usually doesn't even boot and if it does it crash while loading Windows. The thing I can think of is that the cpu is generating to much heat so it knocks it's speed down. I don't know....you guys got any ideas?

well my overclock is at 11.5x at 202.73 with the same board and barton

2.3 is a good overclock for that barton don't expect to much more unless your doing super cooling

with the rev 1 boards most people can only use 12.5 and lower or 13 and higher multis.

and yes it's been pushed to far with the current setup so a higher mult isn't much help to you anyway.

I have determined that the lower clock speed is from to much heat. Right after I posted my question I tried using 13X133 and only got 668MHz when I should have got 1.7GHz. So now I have no idea why it's doing this. Although when I was messing around in the bios I was able to bump my fsb 203MHz so now I'm at 2.34GHz with 406MHz fsb and ram running at 406MHz. i don't think I've pushed it to far, my cpu only hits 49C under full load and my north bridge stay at ambient.

Question

Sorry for the Kick, but I also want to know the same thing.

I have the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe with the Uber Bios v1.008. When I choose a multiplier above 12.5x my CPU speed is dropped like a mofo. Therefore I also would like to know what the max Multiplier for this motherboard is.

Rest of my setup includes:
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (Uber v1.008)
Athlon XP-M 2600+
Corsair 1024mb Twinx Pro PC3200c2

Im running 12x200 = 2400mHz @ 1.650v at the moment.

Same deal here, nothing much you can do I guess. Dont know if the last bios fixed it (Im running 1008 Uber bios).

Try reading out your cpu with CPU-Z or CPUID. I 4got which did it, but one of these actually named my CPU: Athlon XP 2600+ Mobile.

I believe the board has a max mp of 12.5, at least so it seems!

i have bios 1009

don't know about bios 1011
but if i use 3d mark 2001 my cpu is is read as a 2300 mhz duron
and i get a lower score as when i had a 1700+ clocked to a 2000+
old cpu was something like 8000 points
new cpu around 7000 points

and 3d mark 2003 reads it as a unkwown cpu and it score is almost the same as with my old cpu
score with old cpu was around 1100
new cpu around 1000

what is weird cose this cpu is pretty much faster
so scores have to be higher or is my graphics card at max i have a geforce4 ti 4200 64 mb se
