Default PC Chips m811problem

So I got parts of some friends for cheap and am putting together a new system. 2x512Mb RAM, PC Chips m811, XP 2200+, Radeon 9600xt. The problem is when I put the video card in it wouldn't boot. Then fans spin up and all but no BIOS beeps or anything. So I put a Radeon 9000 in and it boots up fine. So I'm looking around find that I can't enable 4x AGP in the BIOS even though the motherboard is supposed to be able to. Google around seems to be a fairly common problem and the latest BIOS has fixed it for alot of people. So I download and got to flash and it says BIOS incompatible with part ID or something like that. I'm positive its right the only thing that concerns me is that when I run PC Wizard for Chipset manufacturer it comes up unkown but googling around for the chipset confirms that this is an m811 as the BIOS splash bootup screen says. So I don't really know what to do. I'm up for a hacked BIOS if anyone has one they know works with this board. Any help is appreciated

There's your problem right there. What chipset is the northbridge? Have you tried any other AGP 4x / 8x cards in it?

VIA KT266/333 The board is supposed to support AGP 4x but it not working is a common problem. A BIOS flash usually fixes it but as I said in my post in wouln't flash.

ASUS released a board called the A7V266 and it used the same chipset I think, and it had compatibility problems with the 9600 Pro. Might be something to think about.

I'll keep that in mind. Any ideas about why that BIOS doen't want to flash though. I want to get this to work cause I got these parts essentially free and don't really have much money to spend.

Here's my two cents.......

throw your cards out on the table and let us take a look......
Give us all the info on the mb and what bios your trying to install.....

BTW: From the pcchips website they have 9 different 810m models. All of them use the same bios upgrade. After reading through the current bios version for this model. It doesnt state anything about the fix your talking about. The only thing it states is that if you run onboard vga the memory share is 8mb. If you flash it to the current bios off the pcchips website. I dont think its going to fix your problem.

If your trying to flash it with this version 030808s and its giving you incompatibility issues. Id stop right there and examine your mb to be certain its correct. Flashing it with a incorrect bios is lethal and it will become nothing more than a doorstop.

So my advice to you is if the bios isnt a match dont flash it.
Nothing is worse than turning on your computer and it doesnt even post.

Here are a couple screens and the text file output for the mobo from PC Wizard let me know what other info you need. Also I just noticed PC Wizard is incorrectly reporting the amount of RAM theres only 1Gb in there.

Double check that the CMOS jumper isnt in the wrong postion cause thats the problem I had with a PC Chips board. The jumper had no orientation so you couldnt tell if it was set on or off. So just try booting it with the switch in the other postion.

I would agree with what j-dogg said about the compatibility problems with the graphics card. Some motherboards are just simply a pain in the a$$ and don't feel bad, because I'm sure that it has happened to all of us.
