Default MSI K7N2-L Lan/DSL problem

Greetings. I just built a new system with K7N2-L mobo. When I went to hook it up to my DSL modem I can not get PPPOE to work for dialup (Win XP Pro, SP1). LAN card shows up, indicator lights up, all seems to be fine. Just won't dial out through DSL modem. I hooked my old machine back up to the line to double check and it dials out fine.

Is there something strange with the onboard NIC on this board? Something to do with the LAN Bridge (part of drivers)? Or a setting in the BIOS that I have wrong? Anyone else having the same problem?

Please help... frustrating.

Try updating to the latest drivers and BIOS from MSI. If that doesnt work, scrap yer ISP software and use this for pppoe

Yeah. I thought about trying RASPPPOE. I used to use it with Win98, but since switching to WinXP haven't needed it since XP has built-in PPPOE capabilities.

Read the page, it offers better performance that XP's built in pppoe, and it might solve yer problem. But dont ferget the BIOS and drivers update. I have the same board, and my cable internet works like a charm

Thanks. I'll give that a try when I get home tonight.

Is your board running the NIC and the LAN Bridge? If so, do you have any idea what the bridge is/does?

Thanks

Delete the PPPoE connection, create a new connection, not one that requires a login, the built in standardized ethernet mode works fine.

i have the K7N2G-L and i feel ya brother...this problem is limited to the hardware, i have done everything from updating drivers, bios, windows, and my calendar to make it work, and it seemed kinda funny that all i had to do was grab a cheap little 10-100 that was just sittin around, tos it in there, boot up and create the connection (about as vanilla as possible) and worked flawlessy since...the lan on our boards have fatal issues, good luck...

im willing to bet that the problem depends on your manner of network gateway (router, hub, switch, cable modem, dsl modem) so far it seems to be effecting those with dsl routers...

mine: Lucent DSL Pipe

let me know if you got problems with the onboard lan and let me know what its being plugged into, this might have something to do with the actual gateway and not the NIC itself...

I just got done reading a 9-page forum on MSI's site with people talking about NIC issues with this board. Everything from MAC address needing to be manually entered in BIOS, to incompatability with older routers (due to shielding issues). What the H*** was MSI thinking when they designed this thing. Luckily I did not buy the board for the onboard NIC, and don't mind installing a PCI to fix the problem.

GRRRRRR......

Hmm i have the same problem like many others: My Onboard Lan doesnt work! I have tried everything and it wont work.

I have a Alcatel Speed Touch ADSL Router and NEVER had any problems with it with the old NIC. My mainboard is the K7N2-L with onboard "LAN".

Ok i tried this actions:

* put my old nic in and created dfü - connection: it worked on first try...then i disabled the old NIC and enabled the onboard NIC...result: i can only send packages but don't recieve any!

* then i went back to the BIOS and entered the MAC-address. back in windows i typed "ipconfig /all" and the MAC was shown there. then i started dfü-connection...result: again no connectivity

* finally i downloaded and updated the rasppoe - protocol with the same result: NO CONNECTION

* i also tried to give the mac address from the old NIC to the onboard but it doesnt change anything!

I have the newest drivers and newest bios version.

If anyone got help i would be very happy!!
