Default Your Hardware may be ignoring your BIOS PCI Latency Settings. Read this!

Hye gang. I am a regular reader of BluesNews and today he cites an OUTSTANDING article that tells us that Windows and your hardware are in most cases, totally ignoring any PCI latency tweaks you make in your BIOS.

Such changes made through a program called PowerStrip (you all have probably heard of it) can and have totally fixed problems with stuttering in video games, mp3's with multiple apps running at the same time, any stutter your system has (within reason) can apparantly be solved by adjusting your PCI latency.

The article is on geocities, so the traffic may kill it, but here ya go.

Maybe we can host it also? I dont know the policy.

I sent your mirror to Blue @ bluesnews. With proper credit and noting that it came from pcapex.com. I hope he posts it.

I know this is an old thread but I never got Powerstrip to let me change the PCI Latency values.
To enable it; on the adapter information screen, uncheck the box accross from where it says "Diagnostic Report".

This system has always been plagued by sound hitches in BF1942, yet crystal clear sound in every other application.
Regardless of DirectX, System, or BF1942 audio settings, the sound absolutely would not play smoothly.

My PCI Latency values were 248-Video, 32-LAN, & 32-Audio.
After setting them to 80-Video, 32-LAN, & 64-Audio, all hitches were gone and a new level of smooth sound was found in ALL applications, a level of smooth clarity I never even knew existed!

Awesome find BzA!

As you may or may not know; the EnTech Taiwan(Makers of Powerstrip) website is extremely slow 75% of the time, so I am mirroring Powerstrip v3.44 Download HERE.
