Default Mobo automatic fan speed

Ive got a Gigabyte 8IPE1000P-G P4 motherboard...

Ive always had my Zalman 7000 plugged in through a fan controller as i thought this would be the easiest way to control fan speeds. Just thoguth today that an even easier way would be to have SpeedFan do it for me!

Pluged the Zally back into the mobo and fired up speedfan... but... i dont seem to be able to change the voltages / fan speed from ANY of the fan headers on my board!

This seems a bit odd as this was not a cheap board when i bought it and my crappy generic socket 478 board in Project Offspring had at least one of its fan headers able to be controlled...

Any thoughts? Could it be a bios setting? or do you think my board puts 12V through all the fan headers and thats that?

Any help appreciated

i have that board and noticed the same thing when fooling around with speedfan a while ago. what would be the pros of having speedfan run the fan instead of the mobo? i figure it would just be another program to take up memory.

Speedfan gives the ability to change the fan speed - higher when things are hotter, slower when things are cooler.

All speedfan does is control the voltage to the fan headers (if the Mobo allows).

This board has a built in Smart Fan thing forthe CPU header only which has High and Low mode depending on a whether the CPU is at 40C or not... but that seems to be about it... Not control over the other fan headers and no variable control over the CPU header... i might try diabling Smart Fan and see if that gives me back the contrl from Speedfan...

If you have any luck then let me know because its quite annoying! lol
